Farihah Hossain
Former Research Associate
As a first-generation American, educator and attorney, Farihah Hossain, J.D. brings a wide range of cross-sector experience working in the child advocacy space. Her passion for serving young children and particularly those in underserved communities stems from childhood: through visits to a rural village in Bangladesh where her father grew up, and to the early care and education center where her mother was responsible for teaching and caring for the littlest infants.
Prior to joining the Lift Each Other Up team, Farihah worked for VIVA, a social impact consulting firm which supports non-profits and agencies serving children and families; conducted health policy research for the Children's Defense Fund in California; was on the founding team of KIPP: Bridge, a public charter elementary school in West Oakland; was the Lead Teacher and Site Supervisor of a state preschool program in Richmond; and taught Second Grade English, Language Arts, and Science in Upstate New York. All of the schools she has worked in are based in urban, low-income communities and serve English Language Learners.
Barred in California, Farihah dedicates time to pro bono work in family and immigration law, and volunteers in her local community. She speaks Bengali and English fluently, and is conversant in Arabic and Spanish.
Farihah is an educator and advocate at home as well--to a curious and friendly toddler named Nuriya. Together, they enjoy reading, exploring, and caring for their chickens.
